Cal Women’s Rugby Head Coach Mari Triplett recently announced that she will step down after two seasons to focus on upcoming family needs. Triplett, who is pregnant with twins due to arrive in October, felt that she wouldn’t be able to commit the amount of time the team needs to continue to work toward their goal of becoming a national competitor.
“For the past 2 years, I’ve dedicated so much to this club and all of our amazing student-athletes. I can honestly say that my time at Cal was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. This was an incredibly difficult decision for me and my family, though I’m confident that the team is in a great place to continue our journey with new coaching staff. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in the past 2 years, and look forward to continuing to follow the professional and athletic careers of all of the impressive young women I was able to work with during my time with Cal Women’s Rugby.”
“These past two years have been major growing years for our team, and Mari has helped us build a strong foundation to be able to grow and succeed as one. Although we are sad to have her leave, we are excited to see what new techniques and skills our new coach can bring to the team so we can further our knowledge and our game.”
Cal Sport Clubs has already begun a national search for a new women’s rugby head coach, to start this Fall.
